Doll-Like Dakota Fanning Talks Fame with Wonderland

She’s enjoyed over a decade of solid work in Hollywood while still just eighteen-years-old, and Dakota Fanning found herself chosen to grace the cover of the April/May 2012 issue of Wonderland magazine.

Donning heavy eye-liner and a high neck blouse for the publication’s front page, the “Breaking Dawn” actress struck a range of doll-like poses for the Cedric Buchet shot spread while opening up about topics such as fame at a young age and not being a fan of social media.

Highlights from Miss Fanning’s interview are as follows. For more, be sure to pay a visit to Wonderland!

On being a young celebrity:
?I?ve never really felt like a child star, that name always felt really odd to me. I?ve just felt like I was an actor at 6 and 7 and, you know, a child who happened to act. But when you turn 18 you?re seen as able to do more things and more roles.?

On her career taking off after starring in ‘I Am Sam’:
?For someone who?s that young to feel completely at home being filmed playing someone else, that really means that that?s where you belong. So that?s how I view that film as a whole – as a moment when I just realized, ?I could do this. I could do this forever.??

On On being averse to social media:
?I just, I really don?t need to let people know where I am and what I?m doing. I feel like a lot of people want their privacy but yet they tell people where they are. [Laughs] It?s just not for me. I don?t have a Facebook or Twitter and I won?t ever. There?s plenty of impostors out there! There?s enough Dakota Fannings on Twitter for all of us!?

With a Little Luck: A Novel

My good friend Caprice Crane’s new book, With a Little Luck, is out today. Yay, Caprice!

It’s gotten great reviews:

“Crane is one of the funniest writers of popular fiction around. The dialog (inner and outer) is laugh-out-loud, snort-inducing hilarious . . . Readers will want to cross their fingers and spit while throwing salt over their shoulders if it helps Berry reach her dreams. Highly recommended.”

Library Journal

“Fans of Stacy Ballis and Cara Lockwood will appreciate Crane’s effortlessly funny style, which is often attempted in popular fiction but is rarely this well executed…Lighthearted and charmingly honest.”

—Booklist

“[A] satisfying romantic comedy…[with] real character growth.”

—Kirkus Reviews

And even better blurbs:

“Romantic, poignant and funny—this book is a lucky find for lit fans. Caprice Crane is a nimble and gifted storyteller.”

—Diablo Cody, Academy Award-winning screenwriter of Juno

“A hilarious romp that oozes charm and giddy fun. Caprice Crane is a true talent.”

—Molly Jong-Fast, author of The Social Climber’s Handbook

“Witty, fast-paced, and sheer fun. Caprice Crane is a master of dialogue. Half the time I was reading this book I was smiling, which made me look like a crazy person on the subway.”

—Jancee Dunn, author of Don’t You Forget About Me and Why Is My Mother Getting a Tattoo?

“Absolutely charming and hilarious.”

—Missy Peregrym, star of the movie Stick It and ABC’s Rookie Blue

With a Little Luck scores in humor, head, and heart. In other words, it’s a perfect trifecta.”

—Karyn Bosnak, author of 20 Times a Lady (soon to be the major motion picture What’s Your Number?)

(Omg, who is that last fantastic blurber?) (I meant every word of it.)

And most importantly, she has the cutest dog ever (who likes to video chat with Bev):

Kate Winslet Says Her Acting ‘Could’ve Been Better’ In ‘Titanic’

‘I think I look nicer now,’ actress adds to MTV News at London premiere of film’s 3-D version.
By Fallon Prinzivalli

Kate Winslet has had a rough journey with “Titanic” premieres in the past. She missed the 1997 world premiere at Mann’s Chinese Theatre when her ex-boyfriend, Stephen Tredre, tragically died of cancer. During the U.K. premiere, she was in the hospital suffering from dysentery she contracted in Morocco while filming “Hideous Kinky.”

But as “Titanic” sets sail again 15 years later in 3-D, Winslet finally made a long overdue red-carpet appearance at the London premiere on Tuesday. MTV News caught up with the Academy Award-winning actress to find out how it feels to see the movie again in a new dimension. “It feels amazing,” Winslet said. “I mean, it is a very strange experience because it’s a long time since I’ve seen the film in its entirety.”

In 1997, the retelling of the ship’s disaster dominated the box office, raking in more than $600 million. The film stands strong as the second-highest-grossing box-office hit in the United States. But Winslet isn’t worried about moviegoers and fans passing up the opportunity to see it in theaters again. While she says it looks different, she also believes it’s much bigger, in a way. “It looks very different. I mean, it’s still as wonderful and as epic as it always was. But it does feel bigger, you know, bigger somehow even than it did then, so it’s very exciting,” she said.

Having seen Rose again on the big screen, Winslet is critical of herself in the role, suggesting that there are things she would change if she could play the part all over again. “My American accent could’ve been much better. My acting could’ve been a lot better,” she said. Her Oscar nomination for the role says otherwise.

And as far as seeing herself in 3-D, she’s happier with the way she looks now. “I think I look nicer now,” she said. “I prefer myself as a 36-year-old. It’s really weird ’cause when you’re 21 you think, ‘Oh God, when I’m 36, oh God, that’s nearly 40 and I’ll look really old and wrinkly by then.’ And actually I quite like the way I look. I feel OK about myself these days.”

Audiences will be able to relive the story as the 3-D version of “Titanic” hits theaters on April 4.

Them Crooked Vultures make their debut with a post-Lollapalooza set.
By James Montgomery

<P>Officially, <a href="/news/articles/1617945/janes-addiction-killers-turn-up-heat-on-lollapaloozas-last-day.jhtml">Lollapalooza ended Sunday night</a> in Chicago's Grant Park, with dueling sets from <a href="/music/artist/killers_the/artist.jhtml">the Killers</a> and <a href="/music/artist/janes_addiction/artist.jhtml">Jane's Addiction</a>. Unofficially, it ended <i>very</i> early Monday morning, across town at venerable rock club the Metro, with a surprise show by Them Crooked Vultures. </P><P> </P><P>To the unfamiliar, the Vultures might seem like an odd choice to close out Lolla weekend … until you realize that they're made up of <a href="/music/artist/foo_fighters/artist.jhtml">Foo Fighters</a> frontman/ former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl, <a href="/music/artist/queens_stone_age/artist.jhtml">Queens of the Stone Age</a> mastermind Josh Homme and <a href="/music/artist/led_zeppelin/artist.jhtml">Led Zeppelin</a> legend John Paul Jones. And their gig at the Metro was their world premiere. </P><P> </P><P>According to <a href="http://blogs.suntimes.com/derogatis/2009/08/them_crooked_vultures_at_metro.html" target="_blank">some reports</a>, the Vultures actually turned <i>down</i> Lollapalooza founder Perry Farrell's request to replace the Beastie Boys as headliners at the festival, opting to debut in front of some 1,100 super-psyched fans at the Metro, rather than 75,000 in Grant Park (tickets for the gig were announced via Foo Fighter/ QOTSA fan clubs). Meaning that, in a lot of ways, this was the most sought-after ticket in town. </P><P> </P><P>Taking the stage just after midnight, the Vultures — Grohl on drums (of course), Homme on guitar and vocals, Jones on bass and keys and frequent QOTSA contributor Alain Johannes on guitar — ripped through 12 songs in 80 minutes, all taken from their upcoming debut, which may or may not be called <i>Never Deserved the Future,</i> and may or may not be hitting stores on October 23 (early "promo" videos touting both those facts were revealed over the weekend to be hoaxes perpetrated by QOTSA fans). </P><P> </P><P>The songs, with appropriately Homme-ian titles like "Scumbag Blues," "Mind Eraser (No Chaser)," "Caligulove" and "Interlude w/Ludes," sounded pretty much how you'd expect, given the band's pedigree. They rocked, hard — <a href="http://leisureblogs.chicagotribune.com/turn_it_up/2009/08/concert-review-them-crooked-vultures-at-metro.html" target="_blank"><i>Chicago Tribune</i></a> critic Greg Kot described them as "fresh, invigorating and just plain nasty" — delving off into psychedelic, reverb-filled excursions and exploring proggy territory, "both of the old-school Yes variety, and the more modern Tool flavor," according to the <i>Chicago Sun-Times'</i> Jim DeRogatis. </P><P> </P><P>It's not known if Monday's Metro performance was a one-off event for the Vultures — there have been whispers of a full-blown tour, but a spokesperson for Homme had not responded to MTV News' request for comment at press time. Nor was it clear whether or not they'll have an album out in October. </P><P> </P><P>Early Monday, a <a href="http://twitter.com/crookedvultures" target="_blank">Crooked Vultures Twitter account</a>, which had previously posted links to the band's <a href="http://www.themcrookedvultures.com/" target="_blank">official-looking Web site</a> and the Metro's online ticketing site — posted a link to what appears to be the group's first bit of official merchandise: a <i>Deserve the Future</i> T-shirt. Cost: $30.</p>

Justin Bieber’s ‘Boyfriend’ Teaser Goes Hard

The 13-second preview of Mike Posner-produced track shows off an edgier side of Bieber.
By Jocelyn Vena

<P>Is it killing you that you have to wait until Monday to hear what <a href="/news/articles/1680882/justin-bieber-boyfriend-single-buzz.jhtml">"Boyfriend" sounds</a> like? Well, <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/bieber_justin/artist.jhtml">Justin Bieber</a> feels your pain and decided to release a teaser for the lead single off his <a href="/news/articles/1680373/justin-bieber-believe-album.jhtml">album, <i>Believe.</i></a> </P><P> </P><P>The 13-second, blink-and-you-might-miss-it tease is spare in terms of instruments, just bleeps and thumps, no singing or rapping. But it does play up Bieber's love for hip-hop; as it nears the end of the tease, a drum line-style beat kicks in. Come Monday, of course, the whole song will drop for Beliebers' listening pleasure. </P><P> </P><P><center><embed src="http://media.mtvnservices.com/mgid:uma:video:mtv.com:744691/cp~id%3D1680192%26vid%3D744688%26uri%3Dmgid%3Auma%3Avideo%3Amtv.com%3A744688" width="460" height="260" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowFullScreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" base="."></embed></center> </P><P> </P><P>The video teaser also includes footage of Bieber in the studio, recording "Boyfriend," which was co-written and co-produced by Mike Posner. The clip premiered on Justin's <a href="http://www.justinbiebermusic.com/boyfriend" target="_blank">website</a> late Thursday night. </P><P> </P><P>"This record is different in a very good way," said producer/writer Mason Levy, who also worked on the song. "Definitely edgier, it's more grown-up, it's more developed and it's sexier. It's just like really dope. It's gonna definitely surprise people. People aren't really expecting that. They're going to like it." </P><P> </P><P>It's clear from the teaser that <a href="/news/articles/1681595/justin-bieber-boyfriend.jhtml">Bieber is using</a> influences from urban music and that he's looking to grow up sonically. The music in the new clip also seems to pay homage to Justin Timberlake, and even Chris Brown. Bieber has confirmed that he raps on the song. </P><P> </P><P>"It's more just the verses [that he's rapping on], and the rest he's singing," Levy told MTV News. "It's dope. It's hip-hop, but with great acoustic R&B, pop guitar with very hip-hop, clubby drums and really dope Justin Timberlake-y melodies." </P><P> </P><P><i>What do you think of "Boyfriend" so far? Tell us in the comments!</i></p>

Octomom Poses Nude — Reportedly for Rent Money

Nadya Suleman — better known as Octomom, for giving birth to eight babies at once — is doing whatever she needs to do to keep her family afloat, even if that means posing nude. The mother of 14 has gone topless (though tastefully covered) for a photo shoot in the U.K. magazine Closer. Justin Bieber In Hot Water After Phone Number Prank

After Bieber allegedly tweeted nine digits of a Texas phone number, two local residents are threatening legal action.
By James Montgomery

Earlier this month, Justin Bieber decided to have a little fun with his 19 million Twitter followers when he posted a mysterious phone number and told them “call me right now.”

In the tweet — which has since been deleted (but can be seen here … with the number blocked out) — Bieber included just nine digits of a Texas number, leaving the true Beliebers to figure out the rest … which, not surprisingly, caused some headaches for folks who had similar numbers. And now, two of them reportedly have threatened legal action.

According to TMZ, a pair of Texas residents (a woman named Dilcie and a man named Kent) have hired an attorney, claiming that since the tweet, their phones have been ringing non-stop. And they’re seeking compensation from Bieber for his “reckless” behavior.

The attorney tells the site that her clients received more than 1,000 phone calls from Bieber fans, at all hours of the day, and their patience “wears thin.” So they’re looking for restitution, which could come in any number of forms: An apology from JB himself, concert tickets for Dilcie’s grandchildren, an endorsement for Kent’s “upcoming online project,” or — of course — cold, hard cash.

Kent, who doesn’t want his last name to be revealed, subsequently told ABC News that he’s had his number for 20 years, and he doesn’t want to change it just because of Bieber. Of course, there is a question about whether Justin’s initial tweets were even authentic, or if his account was somehow hacked. A spokesperson for the singer did not respond to MTV News’ request for comment by press time.

Whitney Houston And Michael Jackson’s Deaths: Gone Too Soon

Game Calls Trayvon Martin Death Proof ‘Stupidity Still Exists’

‘We as a people have always been targeted,’ Compton MC tells MTV News of teen’s racially charged shooting death.
By Rob Markman, with reporting by Felicia Morris

The Game

The tragic killing of Trayvon Martin has had Americans across the country rallying for justice. But rapper Game believes, as others do, that the 17-year-old’s death is part of a deeply rooted racial issue.

“I think that from the beginning of mankind, we as a people have always been targeted,” the Compton MC told MTV News on March 22.

On February 26, Martin was shot dead by neighborhood watchman George Zimmerman as he walked back to the home of a family friend in a gated Sanford, Florida, community. Zimmerman told police that he believed Martin — who was wearing a hooded sweatshirt — looked suspicious. After a call to 911, the dispatcher advised him not to pursue Martin. But Zimmerman reportedly ignored those instructions and pursued Martin anyway.

When police arrived on the scene, the teen was dead. Although Zimmerman admitted to the shooting, police declined to arrest him citing the state’s Stand Your Ground law, which allows a person to kill in cases of self-defense. Trayvon’s parents, community leaders and protestors were outraged and have been crying for justice ever since.

“For some, reason people don’t think that they need any excuse to kill us, beat us, hit us, run us over, disrespect us or anything like that,” Game said of the country’s history of racial tension and violence.

“I’m far from racist,” he continued. “I’m very educated and intellectual and I understand how life works and how people of all colors exist under the sun, but it just seems like more than not black people are, I don’t know, there’s always some negative occurrence that goes on in our existence. This is just another reminder that stupidity still exists.”

On Monday, the Orlando Sentinel reported that unidentified investigators in the case told them that Zimmerman had a different take on the events of February 26. The 28-year-old told law enforcement that Martin struck him and bashed his head on the ground before he shot the teenager in the chest, killing him.

Should ‘Dark Knight Rises’ Take Cues From ‘Hunger Games’?

Batman and Katniss duke it out to be champion of the 2012 box office, in The Weekly Rising.
By Kevin P. Sullivan

What is going on with “The Dark Knight Rises” and its lack of a marketing campaign? We’re four months out from what is supposed to be the biggest movie of the year, but all we have to show for it are two trailers and new theater standees.

This past weekend’s box-office domination of Jennifer Lawrence and “The Hunger Games” stands as a testament to the power of a strong marketing campaign when you have a rabid fanbase helping to carry the load.

Warner Bros. has so far taken an entirely different route when it comes to promoting the final film of Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy. It’s no secret that “The Dark Knight Rises” is coming out and that everyone wants to see it. The mania around “The Dark Knight” established a subculture of raspy-voiced Batman parodies and every male teen attempting Heath Ledger’s Joker makeup and ensured a huge box-office take for the eventual third film.

But with so much of the movie industry now focused on “The Hunger Games” and its “bigger than we could have imagined” success, can “The Dark Knight Rises” afford to coast into theaters in July without a similarly mega-huge marketing campaign? And how high can a big-budget movie like “The Dark Knight Rises” fly without the increasingly common deluge of marketing?

Box-office experts weighing in on the success of “The Hunger Games” give credit to the balance of a hard marketing push and dedicated fanbase. Lionsgate got the word out early and often that “The Hunger Games” was a phenomenon that wouldn’t and couldn’t be missed. For the most part, the campaign fit the property. The three best-selling books had a huge following, but Katniss Everdeen wasn’t exactly a household name heading into last weekend. If a 30-year-old guy didn’t know the Suzanne Collins novels, the commercials could have been enough to entice him.

The approach to marketing “The Dark Knight Rises” should be different. No one needs to be told who Batman is. Everyone and their English butler went to go see “The Dark Knight” in 2008 and would probably be interested in seeing a third film. But what’s new? Fans can look forward to Bane, Catwoman and the Batwing, but there isn’t a news hook like Ledger’s death that makes it something more than the next big movie to see.

When the returns from “The Hunger Games” rose and rose and crept ever closer to the record previously held by “The Dark Knight,” there may have been a slight panic from Batman fans. What if 2012 has already seen its biggest weekend at the box office and Katniss Everdeen has already been crowned the champion?

It would be ignorant to suggest that “The Dark Knight Rises” can’t succeed without an all-encompassing viral marketing campaign and commercials airing every other minute, but what “The Hunger Games” may have proven is that without those elements, Batman might have to settle for second place.

Are you disappointed with the level of marketing/images/previews/trailers from “The Dark Knight Rises”? Hit me up on Twitter @KPSull and we’ll discuss later in the week over on the Movies Blog!

Check out everything we’ve got on “The Dark Knight Rises.”

Rihanna: I’m Headed to London, BOY!

Ready for a long night of travel, Rihanna turned up at LAX Airport in Los Angeles to catch a departing flight bound for London on Monday (March 26).

Rocking a giant platinum blonde Afro-weave while oddly hiding her upper lip, the Barbadian beauty also donned a black cap with ‘BOY’ written in big, white letters as she tweeted prior to takeoff, “Boy talk that talk to me all night”

The jet-setting UK journey comes as a Georgia eatery named Chops & Hops landed itself in hot water after posting a photo on its Facebook and Twitter pages of a new dish with a caption reading, “@chrisbrown, @rihanna and us teamed up for a award winning celebrity sandwich. Put your hands on this caribbean black and bleu sandwich.”

Continuing on with the tasteless pun, the restaurant wrote, ?Chris Brown won’t beat you up for eating this unless your name starts with a R and ends with A.”

Getting plenty of negative reaction to the reference of Brown’s assault on Rihanna, a now former patron named Nancy Downend Ferguson posted a message in response, which read, “Cannot believe you find this appropriate. Was a loyal customer. Will never come back.?

A rep for the restaurant quickly jumped in to issue an apology, writing, ?The owners of C&H would like to make sure everyone knows that we and our staff DO NOT SUPPORT DOMESTIC VIOLENCE. Many of us have been affected by domestic violence in some manner and realize that this is no joke. We have been involved in fundraising for Project Safe Team 6 and we fully intend on donating proceeds (times 6 — in honor of Team 6) from the sales of the burger. C&H continues to strive for a community driven, family oriented, great food and great service environment. We will continue to be involved in our community fundraising and charities near and dear to our hearts.?

Lana Del Rey ‘Compelled’ By Britney Spears

Label boss Jimmy Iovine calls criticism ‘a drag.’
By Gil Kaufman

<P>To look at her, you'd think <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/rey_lana_del/artist.jhtml"_blank">Lana Del Rey's</a> inspirations come mostly from 1940s detective movies and sepia-toned Hollywood pinups. But the "Video Games" singer told England's Magic 105.4 that one of her big fashion and music icons is Britney Spears. </P><P> </P><P></p><div class="player-placeholder right" title="Lana Del Rey Says Her Lyrics 'Are Personal'" id="vid:724891.id:1677189" width="240" height="211"></div><p> </P><P> </P><P>"I'm not really interested in a ton of female musicians but there is something about Britney that compelled me — the way she sings and just the way she looks," Del Rey said. And even though she's just released her major-label debut under the Del Rey name, she added that she's already kind of over music-making. </P><P> </P><P>"The thing that makes me happy now isn't really singing," she said. "Music was once the be-all and end-all, but when you lose everything you have over and over again, it's not so important." </P><P> </P><P>It might be a bit early for her to bail on the whole music thing though, since her album, <I>Born to Die</I>, topped the iTunes album charts in 14 countries this week, including the U.S., U.K., Italy, France, Germany, Ireland and Mexico. </P><P> </P><P>The chart triumph — and a possible #2 debut next week on the <I>Billboard</i> albums tally — came despite a rash of negative or <a href="/news/articles/1678050/lana-del-rey-album-born-to-die-reviews.jhtml">middling reviews</a>
of the album as well as the continuing fallout from her shaky <a href="/news/articles/1677389/lana-del-rey-snl.jhtml">"Saturday Night Live"</a>
debut last month. </P><P> </P><P>The haterade has gotten her label boss, Interscope's Jimmy Iovine, to chime in on the flack his latest protégé has been taking. "It's a drag," Iovine told <a href="http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/lana-del-rey-backlash-jimmy-iovine-286378" target="_blank"><I>The Hollywood Reporter</I></a>. "Maybe this is a new sport. It's something we've never seen before. Or maybe it's [like] the Giants and the Jets." Del Rey herself told <I>Rolling Stone</I> that she thought she looked "beautiful" and sang "fine" on the show, saying that "that's just the way I perform, and my fans know that." </P><P> </P><P>Say what you want about Del Rey's looks, attitude and performance ability, but Iovine said there is one thing you can't mess with. </P><P> </P><P>Musically, he thinks <I>Die</I> is "really good. Great lyrics and great songs. I don't care what anybody says, 'Video Games' is a great song. When she sings that song, it moves me. It's how we signed her — she sang and it was beautiful. I think she's really talented. Period."</p>

Dutch beauty Doutzen Kroes was captured enjoying some Miami living on Saturday (March 24) with her sweet 1-year-old son Phyllon. The gorgeous mother-son duo – who were missing daddy Sunnery James – soaked up the sun and played in the surf at a local beach. Phyllon flashed a few toothy grins as he enjoyed his day with his mother.

The 27-year old Victoria’s Secret model was also spotted a day earlier (March 23) rocking an itty bitty black bikini while she played with her beautiful boy in the ocean. Little Phyllon looked to be having a blast in the water safe in his mama’s arms.

Katy Perry’s ‘Part Of Me’ Video Depicts ‘Affirmation Of Strength’

Singer opens up about shooting video at Camp Pendleton Marine Corps base on ‘MTV First: Katy Perry.’
By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by James Montgomery

Katy Perry takes on a whole new role in her new “Part of Me” video. In it, she plays a woman who joins the Marines following her breakup with her boyfriend. While Perry is usually pretty soft and feminine in her clips, this video shows another rougher, tougher side of the superstar — running through the mud and wearing a uniform and face paint. And that was her intention.

“Well, I think that everybody can see that I love to take chances with my videos, and also have a lot of fun,” she told MTV News when she premiered the Ben Mor-directed video on “MTV First: Katy Perry” Wednesday night (March 21). If the video seems a bit hard for the singer who previously brought us candy-coated imagery and whipped-cream-spewing bras, then “mission accomplished.”

“It’s an affirmation of strength, so I wanted to go the strongest route I ever could,” she explained. “Literally, I was like, ‘I’m gonna join the service. I’m gonna join the Marines.’ We used only Marines. … For three days, I was a wannabe Marine, which was so difficult.”

The video was shot over several days in February at the Camp Pendleton Marine Corps base in Oceanside, California. And for Katy it was all about fully experiencing life as a Marine in boot camp. “Those people work hard and work out. I learned how to flip someone. I learned how to flip them on their back. I learned how to wrestle underwater,” she said about her training for the video, which also includes some boot camp footage.

The singer knew that authenticity would be important. “I just love it and I think people really respond to it,” she said. “People can catch the BS … and I just wanted to really go for it.”

“Part of Me” is the lead single off Perry’s Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection, out March 26.

SXSW Film Fest Full Of Chills, Thrills And Tears Of Laughter

MTV News wraps up the highlights of the Austin, Texas, festival including our favorite celebrity interviews.
By Kara Warner

AUSTIN, Texas — Although the South by Southwest Music Festival is just getting started, the film portion of the annual music, arts and interactive gathering in Austin, Texas, is coming to an end. It was too short a trip for our tastes, but we were able to cram in an awful lot of film coverage during our time within the city limits. Before we get to the highlights from SXSW Film Fest ’12, here’s a compilation of our interviewees’ humorous commentary regarding the best and worst things about SXSW.

“The great thing about SXSW is the proliferation of beautiful young men all over the city,” deadpanned Nick Offerman. “Now that the sun’s out we’re going to be seeing some shirts come off. This is a modern film we’ve made,” he said of his film, “Somebody Up There Likes Me,” trying to tie it to his answer. “Nature is beautiful.”

“#1: It’s in Austin, that’s the best,” said Johnny Knoxville. “The Fest feels like it’s picking up steam every year.”

“There was one day where from around 11 a.m. ’til whenever I went to bed I think I had — I counted — 28 beers,” “21 Jump Street” star Jonah Hill recalled of his first boozy experience at the festival a few years back. “I was never drunk, it was such a long period of time, there was a good old buzz thing going on for 20 hours.”

“My favorite thing so far is waiting in line with other people,” admitted “Jump Street” co-director Chris Miller. “At first it was driving me crazy, but … you’re there for an hour with people who all like the same stuff and have a much cooler conversation there than you would in a bar.”

“The cons of SXSW are all the beautiful young women getting in the way of looking at all the beautiful young men,” Offerman continued. “Prancing about, tossing their hair like they’re all that. They’re not.”

With those pros and cons in mind, let’s get back to our film-focused journey in Austin, which we began with the Joss Whedon-scripted, Drew Goddard-directed festival opener, “The Cabin in the Woods.” Although it is a traditional horror film with “thrilling deaths,” it’s a crowd-pleaser nonetheless.

Then came the twisted thriller “Killer Joe,” which features many an opportunity for awkward laughter and smooth-talkin’ Matthew McConaughey as a killer-for-hire, followed by a surprise appearance from Mark Wahlberg during Seth MacFarlane’s “A Conversation With” panel, which led to a very casual interview about Wahlberg’s acting skills and falling in love with a teddy bear. After that, we walked down a dark childhood memory lane with “Nature Calls” director Todd Rohal and stars Johnny Knoxville and Rob Riggle.

We spent time with skateboarding legend Danny Way during his surprise visit to a local skate park, and tried not to laugh ourselves to tears during chats with “Small Apartments” scene-stealer Matt Lucas and deadpan comedy ace Nick Offerman when he told us the best thing about his buzzworthy film, “Somebody Up There Likes Me” is the fact that he gets naked onscreen. We’re still not sure he was telling the truth, but it was hilarious nonetheless.

Our final day of film-related action involved a visit to “21 Jump Street” with stars Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum, who revealed the project’s special ties to SXSW, as well as their reactions to finally seeing the finished film with an audience.

We chatted up Fabianne Therese, the star of the recently picked-up home invasion thriller “The Aggression Scale,” who accidentally put her hand through a glass window during filming and resulted in the filmmakers writing it into the script. And then we caught up with the men of “Extracted,” an intriguing film about a man who invents a way to watch people’s memories from inside their minds and then gets trapped within a criminal’s mind.

“I think [the movie] means something to everybody,” director Nir Paniry said. “To me, it’s a film about regret and how one memory means something to somebody else and one memory means something to another person. Memories are not finite records, they’re organic, they can be manipulated, but they’re specific to the person. Your memory of something is not my memory of something.”

“It’s life. All these things that are universal and timeless,” added star Sasha Roiz. “Trying to confront your past or changing your course of life, redemption. These two men are basically sitting in their own purgatory, one is stuck in a cell, one is stuck in the mind of another man. There all these wonderful themes that bubble to the surface.

And although it’s not technically film-related, we spent some time with Lena Dunham, the star/creator/executive producer of HBO’s heavily hyped new series “Girls,” which she promises is grounded in reality and deals with the drama of modern romantic relationships.

All in all, our experience was fun-filled, if a tad bit exhausting. For those of you hankering to see the films in our lineup, the good news is that several of them are headed to theaters or small screens near you.

“21 Jump Street” opened everywhere Friday (March 16); “Cabin in the Woods” hits theaters April 13; “Girls” premieres on HBO April 15, followed by the DVD/Blu-Ray release of “The Aggression Scale” on May 29. Seth MacFarlane’s live-action debut “Ted” hits theaters July 13.
